University of Kentucky Divisions of Cardiology and Cardiothoracic SurgerySpring, 1997For the Divisions of Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Kentucky, Rona provided advice and facilitation as faculty developed a strategic plan to create major improvements in services and facilities related to preventing and treating heart disease. This work took place during a time of enormous turbulence in the world of health care, radical change in academic medicine, and the arrival of a new chief of cardiology at the University of Kentucky. Rona interviewed all members of the faculty of cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery divisions. She then designed and facilitated a one-and-a-half-day retreat during which faculty of the two divisions talked with each other about their situation and took the first steps toward creating a new heart institute at the University of Kentucky.
