School ImprovementIn 1990, the Kentucky General Assembly passed the most sweeping and comprehensive reform legislation in the history of the United States. This legislation, the Kentucky Education Reform Act of 1990, is now the education law for the state and remains the single most extensive school improvement effort mounted by any state. RKI began work in the area of school improvement during our first year as a company, 1983. We have carried out long-term work on the relationship between students and their schools, between local citizens and their schools, and between communities and their school systems. Our work in this arena involves qualitative research on the impact and effectiveness of school improvement strategies, program and project design, dialogue design, facilitation, and facilitation training. For good examples of our work in the area of school improvement, visit the project descriptions for Fayette County Public Schools 2020 Vision, Partnership for Kentucky Schools, the Prichard Committee for Academic Excellence, and Jessamine County Public Schools. RKI also advises and provides facilitation services for groups in the policy-making arena. The Education Coalition is a good example of our work in this area.
